Data-Driven Sports Ownership
Sage Sports Group builds high-upside investments in lower-division international basketball and football clubs. We bring elite front-office analytics—proven in the NBA, top-flight European football, and across global sports—to create lasting competitive and financial advantage.
Investment Thesis
Lower-division clubs in Europe's basketball and football leagues offer compelling entry valuations with significant upside through promotion. Strategic investment at the right tier creates asymmetric return profiles unavailable in top-flight ownership.
Most lower-division clubs lack sophisticated analytics infrastructure. We deploy NBA-caliber player evaluation, roster construction, and strategic planning methodologies to create competitive advantages that compound over seasons.
We target second and third-division clubs across international markets, where regulatory frameworks support foreign ownership and promotion pathways create clear value creation opportunities through on-court success.
Our Approach
Our team has built championship-caliber analytics departments and led roster construction for organizations across the NBA, NFL, ESPN, European football, and International basketball. We know what works.
We apply these battle-tested methodologies to underserved markets where analytical sophistication creates outsized competitive advantage—and where on-court success directly drives financial returns through promotion.
Think of it as the analytical rigor of Moneyball combined with the ownership commitment of Wrexham: we're not consultants advising from the outside—we're owners building sustainable value from within, using data-driven decision making to compete and win against better-resourced clubs.
Our methods have proven results: Between historic playoff drought breaking and low-budget winners, our data-driven team building wins on the court and in the books.
"Basketball is worldwide. There are over 110,000 potential pros globally, and only 540 spots in the NBA. The NBA shouldn't be the only professional league where full basketball analytics resources exist."
— Colin Montague, Co-Founder
"The real power of data comes when it's placed in context. Analytics isn't separate from the game—it integrates with coaching instincts and traditional evaluation to transform numbers into actionable insights. When data is accessible and properly contextualized, it becomes the foundation for better decisions at every level."
— Dr. Paul Sabin, Co-Founder
At ESPN, we created predictive models like the Basketball Power Index (BPI) and College Football Playoff Predictor that became the foundation of national sports coverage. These weren't just academic exercises—they were tools that shaped how millions understood and engaged with sports.
Now we're bringing that same rigor to ownership. The metrics we build don't just evaluate players—they create sustainable competitive advantages by identifying undervalued talent, optimizing roster construction, and making every euro count in markets where precision matters most.
